The wind turbine sector is the largest area of implementation for IMO slewing rings. We have developed numerous customer-specific applications, e.g. slewing rings for arctic environmental temperatures that can be operated in the temperature range to -30 °C and have a structural stability to -40 °C.

We are the first contact for our customers when the issue is working out cost-efficient solutions for new or increased power wind turbines. This is done through the use of state-of-the-art calculation tools, for example the finite element method.

In the graphic showing a 2MW wind turbine, you can easily see the exact location of the different bearings. Each of three rotor blades sit on blade bearings that are used for synchronous adjustment, i.e. power regulation of the system. The azimuth bearing is located between the tower head and the tower house, it is used to ideally track the momentary prevailing wind direction through the rotor, with revolving support from the single main bearing.

The most rigorous requirements in terms of load capacity, precision, and service life are imposed on single main bearings for large wind turbines. For gear- and shaftless wind turbines, IMO Energy offers innovative solutions based on three-row cylindrical roller bearings.
